Incident – HM Coastguard called out the RNLI Blyth lifeboat Alan and Amy to go to the assistance of two surfers using long boards off South Beach Blyth.
 
The RNLI Blyth Lifeboat was launched at 2.35pm 12th May 2012 and reached the scene off South Beach Blyth at  2.39 pm. The crew then commenced to search an area from the West Pier Port of Blyth to about one mile south of Gloucester Lodge. During the search the Helmsman spoke to other surfers in the area to obtain information about the missing surfers.
 
Also involved in the search were, The Police, Police helicopter, Air Sea Rescue helicopter and Coastguard Shore Patrols.
 
At 3.27pm after an intensive search the RNLI Blyth lifeboat was stood down by the HM Coastguard and returned to station at 3.36pm and was ready for service at 4.15pm.
 
The RNLI Blyth Lifeboat Operations Manager John Scott said ‘The weather conditions were good with a six foot on shore swell. The intensive training of the RNLI lifeboat crew ensured a careful search of the area’.
