Incident – Blyth’s inshore lifeboat was launched by Humber Coastguard at the request of Northumbria Police who were attending an incident involving a person in distress on the road bridge where the A189 crosses the River Blyth.
The lifeboat was launched and made its way up the winding and unlit river channel in the dark, standing off just east of the road bridge. Approximatly 10 minutes after lifeboat arriving on scene, Police & Fire Brigade on the bridge managed to recover the person to a waiting Ambulance.
The lifeboat was then stood down, returned to station and was made ready for service again at 23:45
A spokesman for Blyth Lifeboat said “The crew had used their trained skills in seamanship and boat handling to navigate the unmarked winding river channel in the dark”
