Incident – The crew of Blyth Lifeboat were called out by HM Coastguard at 15.35 hours 20th February 2010 to avert the risk of a dog owner jumping into the cold water of the river near the Seven Stars Jetty Port of Blyth.
The lifeboat was launched at 15.41 hours and was at the scene at 15.42 hours. Fortunately the dog owner had not entered the water and there was only the dog to be rescued.
The crew were able to save the dog from the river and get the animal to its owner who was still safe on shore.
The lifeboat left the scene at 15.53 hours and returned to station. The lifeboat was ready for service at 16.04 hours.
Lifeboat Operations Manager John Scott said, “That the crew of the ‘Jennie B’ had done a good job and avoided the dog owner taking the risk of going into the river which could have been hazardous in the cold weather”.
