Incident – HM Coastguard diverted the Blyth’s inshore lifeboat the ‘Jennie B’ from a training exercise to go to assist a person who was reported to be in the sea off Cambois Bay north of Blyth Harbour.
The lifeboat was at the scene at 12:40 and was shortly joined by HM Coastguard shore patrol, Police, Police helicopter, RAF Air Sea Rescue helicopter and Ambulance crew in the search.
After an extensive search by the rescue services off the Cambois Bay area, no one was found. The search was abandoned and the lifeboat stood down at 14:06 and as it made its way south across the bay to return to station the crew kept a look out for the casualty and returned to station at 14:35.
The lifeboat was ready for service again at 15:00.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Mr. John Scott said ‘The rescue services worked well together but unfortunately no one was found and rescued’.
