Incident – Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Blyth’s inshore lifeboat following a 999 call from a member of the public reporting that a person appeared to be in difficulty in the river Blyth.
Blyth Coastguard mobile unit was already on patrol in the area on the south side of the river and proceeded to make the 7 mile journey the north side of the river by road.
The lifeboat was launched at 20:57 but was stood down soon after as the reported person in difficulty was found to be a local fisherman searching for bait.
The lifeboat returned to station and was re-housed and ready for service again by 21:20.
