Volunteer crew members from Blyth RNLI were paged on Wednesday 24 January at 22.59pm to reports of a red flare being sighted.

The B class inshore lifeboat was requested by UK Coastguard to proceed to sea and conduct a sea onshore in Cambois Bay. The D Class inshore lifeboat was requested to go north up the River Blyth and search the area around the Boating Association and the North Harbour.
After approximately 60 minutes the D class had finished Its search of the harbour area it was then tasked to search the shoreline from the harbour entrance north to the River Wansbeck.
Once an extensive search had been completed by both the inshore lifeboats with nothing found the search was suspended at 00:55am.
On the way back to the lifeboat station the D class lifeboat searched the wind turbines in Cambois Bay and the South Beach side of the West Pier.
Both boats upon returning to station were made ready for service
