Blyth RNLI volunteer crew paged at 00.29 on Wednesday 18 July

The volunteer crew had been requested by UK Coastguard and the Port of Blyth to come to the aid of a stricken vessel in the River Blyth

The Atlantic 75 inshore lifeboat the Vic & Billie Whiffen was launched at 00.34 and proceeded north up the River Blyth towards the ash dock where the stricken angling boat was located.

The casualty vessel had suffered mechanical failure and were not far from returning to their moorings.

The inshore lifeboat proceeded to tow the vessel to Blyth Boating Association where it was safely secured at 00.54.

The volunteer crew then returned to the lifeboat station and the Atlantic 75 was made ready for service at 1.10am
