Members of the Blyth Lifeboat station and Ladies Guild are pleased to confirm that Ian and Trevor from local band The Longsands will be performing two acoustic sets a part of the stations open day this Saturday, 2nd July.
The open day will be opened by Keith Martin from Magic Radio at 12.30pm at North Gate, Blyth harbour. As well as The Longsands we will have stalls, Jet Ski Demonstrations, Children’s roundabout, face painting, refreshments and the draw for this years summer draw. Members of the public will also be able to meet and chat to the Lifeboats crew and take a boat trip up the river.
The Longsands are a band flying high at the moment, knocking on all the right doors and winning fantastic critical acclaim nationwide by fans, press and fellow artists.
Having recently performed at the Friends of Mine Festival in Manchester, The Longsands return to the North East having claimed the title of ‘band of the festival’ from BBC Radio Manchester’s Clare Lancaster. Not bad considering the line up included the likes of The Cribbs, The Charlatans and Badly Drawn Boy!
As the summer falls upon us there is not going to be a lot of time for these five likely lads to relax. The Longsands’ new single ‘Little Britain’ hit download stores last week and boasts a massive sounding song and message.
The Longsands take us back to a time when bands such as The Jam and the Sex Pistols captured the mood of the British people with the aggression and lyrics of their music. The outspoken tone of Little Britain challenges government policies past and present that see the British people, regulated, rapped in red tape and feeling the financial pressures of mistakes made by others.
The band have also been drumming up support from other unlikely sources with their series of celebrity sporting challenges. These witnessed the band taking on stars such as Mike Tyson, Ricky Hatton and Steve Harmison at quirky sports challenges including Conkers, Hit the Bullseye, and an Egg and Spoon Race!
Little Britain is available now for download on iTunes. Hard Copies are also in store at HMV Newcastle, Silverlink and Metro Centre. Or text TRACK LONGSANDS to 80818 to receive a download link via text message.
